5. Scout/Guide
a) Sign:
The Scout/Guide Sign is given by raising the Right hand in level with the shoulder, palm to the front with three fingers stretched together and thumb closing on the little finger.
- The Sign is given at the time of Investiture or at the time of renewal of the Scout/Guide promise.
- The Sign reminds Parts of the Promise made and forms the basis of the Salute.
- The thumb covering the little finger stands for protecting the weaker people.
b) Salute:
The scout/Guide salute is a secret sign used only by the Scouts and Guides all over the world amongst themselves.
Scout/Guide Salute is given by raising the right arm smartly to the level of the shoulder, palm to the front with the three fingers stretched together, the first touching the forehead one inch above the right eyebrow and thumb closing on the little finger. And after that, the arm cutting to the front is quickly and smartly down curling the fingers.
The Salute reminds, members of the promise taken. The 3 fingers held upright represent the 3 fold Promise.
A special case comes with Scout/Guide staff or when right hand is engaged: -
When a Scout/Guide is carrying his/her Staff in his/her right hand or engaged otherwise, he will bring his left arm smartly across the body along the belt-line in a horizontal position. Palm facing down, the fingers showing the Scout/Guide Sign and be kept just along the belt-line for a period.
When to salute: -
1. None should wait to be saluted but "Salute First" irrespective of age and position.
2. All Scouts/Guides in uniform should salute each other only at their first meet during a day and when they part for the day.3. During hoisting of National Flag and Bharat Scouts & Guides Flag, World Scouts Flag World Guides Flag.4. Playing of National Anthem.
5. To funerals of Scout and National Leaders.
6. While in a rally or Group "file" none should Salute but the leader of the rally or "file" should Salute and others should stand in Attention Position. The only Exception is during National Anthem or Flag Honoring, when all present Salute.
